hand knitted Aran straightjacket 1995
Nobody told me (there would be days like these)
Aran Straight Jacket 1996 (42inch medium to large)
Referencing years of psychoanalytical research into both his own and a wider social pathology, Tyszko’s practice often employs deeply personal and familial tropes. Here we see childhood memories of a maternal domesticity and fireside knitting of family jumpers, warped through a blurred lens of early drug addiction and cyclical depression into an almost perfect dysfunctional commodity.
An impossible object(ion), an Aran Straight Jacket, a failed yet comforting psychiatric restraint (with no restraint possible).
