{"id":2850,"date":"2019-01-09T23:43:49","date_gmt":"2019-01-09T23:43:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theculture.net\/radio\/?p=2850"},"modified":"2019-07-03T23:46:40","modified_gmt":"2019-07-03T22:46:40","slug":"hobart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theculture.net\/radio\/hobart\/","title":{"rendered":"hobart"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Subtitled Radio is an accompanying project to the Isotopica Radio series.<br \/>\nOriginating from a \u00c2\u00a0study of Leni reifenstahl&#8217;s Fascist Epic &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Olympia_(1938_film)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Olympia<\/a>&#8216;, the first modern propaganda <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1936_Summer_Olympics#Political_aspects\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">olympic games in 1936 Berlin<\/a>.<br \/>\nThe spectacle of the games were designed around the film project, and intended as a lasting monument of the founding days of the One Thousand Year Reich (it lasted 12).<br \/>\nThe integral vulgarity and body fascism of National Socialism was easily imprinted onto the Olympic Games and in response to these studies, artist Simon Tyszko rendered the two part film entirely in reverse. The Olympic committee were initially enthusiastic about an artist working with the film, yet withdrew their permission for this use when the overtly political nature of the Tyszko&#8217;s practice was <em>perhaps<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0better understood. The Film continues to be shown at underground film festivals without specific intervention from the artist.<br \/>\nThe Hobart is a continuation of this work, where timing elements of films are radically altered, allowing us to view familiar cinematic notions in greater and sometimes excruciating detail.<br \/>\nIn this instance Hobart is also simply rendered in reverse, yet scored with an abstracted composition made as part of the `Isotopica radio series. Reworked from &#8220;Alone in the Wilderness&#8217; a\u00c2\u00a0Documentary telling the story of Dick Proenneke who, in the late 1960s, built his own cabin in the wilderness at the base of the Aleutian Peninsula.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 640px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-2850-1\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/theculture.net\/0\/18\/thehobart.mp4?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/theculture.net\/0\/18\/thehobart.mp4\">https:\/\/theculture.net\/0\/18\/thehobart.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<hr \/>\n<hr \/>\n<hr \/>\n<p>From <a title=\"Philip K. Dick\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Philip_K._Dick\">Philip K. Dick&#8217;s<\/a>\u00c2\u00a01967 novel Counter Clock World.<br \/>\nThe Hobart Phase is the new order of life where people rise from the dead and are rejuvenated. Time reversal apparently began in 1986.<br \/>\nOther than aging, Hobart Phase resurrection has changed nutritional and excretion processes and associated social taboos.
